The project is titled ‘The Spirit Within All Things’, it is an interactive lantern designed to express the idea that all objects have a spirit and presence. It is inspired by the concept of animism; defined as the belief that all objects, places, and creatures all hold a distinct spiritual essence. The project is an approach to use the lantern acting as a bridge to understand the unseen lifeness. It responds to its surroundings by detecting the colors of nearby objects and changing its light. This shifting light represents the object’s “soul”, making the invisible influence of the environment visible.
The lantern is shaped like an egg, symbolizing life, transformation, and hidden energy. It is made using glued paper and a balloon, creating a soft, diffused glow that enhances its ethereal presence. What makes this lantern feel truly alive is the way people interact with it. When someone places a colored object near it, the lantern reacts and changes its light as if it is responding with curiosity or emotion. This interaction gives it a sense of soul, making it feel like more than just an object. It acknowledges and reflects the presence of those around it. It symbolizes how each interaction is unique, how some people may carefully pick colors to see how the lantern reacts, while others may experiment playfully, creating a different outcome. This echoes to human relationships, where emotions shift based on interactions with others.
